Aviation Systems
Full line of qualified shutters for Airborne Thermal Imaging and Laser System mission equipment
The aviation operational environment demands the employment of multiple technologies all assimilated into cohesive mission equipment packages for both manned and unmanned systems. Brandstrom Instruments offers aviation system shutter solutions for integration into the full range of thermal imaging, multi spectral, laser transmitter, laser ranger finder and laser designator applications, including:
- Image fusion of Long Wave IR and Short wave IR technologies
- Higher resolution LWIR and SWIR sensors
- UAV Hyperspectural Imaging
- Common Airborne Sensor Program
- Advanced Distributed Aperture Systems 360˚ view around the aircraft
- Pilot navigation systems for tactical and urban environments
- Pilot’s vision enhancement for adverse operational environments such as brown out conditions
Unmanned Air Vehicle Applications
UAV payloads consist of multi technology sensors enabling the UAV to operate in all weather and atmospheric conditions. Near IR (NIR), Short Wave IR (SWIR) and Long Wave IR (LWIR) sensors all require shutters to protect high value sensors from damage due to prolonged exposure to solar radiation. Our shutters are designed for airborne applications and are the ideal solution for this demanding environment of extreme temperatures and vibration.
If your company requires a shutter solution for an airborne imaging application, Brandstrom Instruments can help. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Our Heritage in Aviation Systems
From 1972 until the late 1990s, our core business was in power failure warning indicators for analog aircraft instrumentation. We have served, and in some cases continue to produce legacy products for the markets and programs listed at right.
Commercial
- Boeing
- Airbus
These rotary solenoid-actuated devices, which are designed to be MIL STD 810 G compliant and have successfully completed independent verification testing, reliably alert pilots to changes in circuit conditions as they occur during flight.
Specified for their compact size, low power consumption and high resultant force, these indicators provide autonomous advance warning of system malfunction and potential unsafe or hazardous conditions.
General Aviation
- Cessna
- Learjet
- Gulfstream
New Uses for Warning Indicator Technology
Indicators have a variety of automatic hazard detection and warning uses in the commercial electronics, industrial automated production line and quality control equipment where accuracy is paramount.
Military
- Black Hawk
- B1-B
- F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18
- A-10
